Bridal beauty There are two rules to looking good on your wedding day: start early and stick at it! The larger department stores often offer free beauty consultations, especially for brides-to-be. This is a good place to start. Discuss any skin problems and find out which of the good-quality skin-care preparations will suit your skin. Regular cleansing, toning and moisturizing will keep you blemish free and looking healthy. If you opt for doing your own make-up on the day, make sure you buy any new cosmetics early on and practice. When you're trying out make-up, it's important to wear something the same color as your wedding dress or take a piece of material in the same color which can be draped to get the same effect. If you fancy a new look for the wedding - something more glamorous perhaps - a make-up lesson from a beauty salon is a great way to pick up a few new ideas and techniques. Alternatively, if you think your hands will be shaking too much on the big day, or you just like the idea of some last-minute pampering, book a beautician to come to the house. Just make sure you fit in a practice session beforehand. List any treatments required - facials, waxing, manicures, pedicures, massages, eyebrow shaping and so on, and book the necessary appointments as early as possible. On the night before the wedding, remember to pack all the beauty preparations and make-up needed for the honeymoon, including, if appropriate, sunscreen and sun lotion. It is also a good idea to assemble a small 'touch-up kit' for the actual day. This should include lipstick, blusher, powder, comb, tissues and safety pins. Your mother can carry this in her handbag ready for any touching-up that needs to be done! Don't forget that your hands will become the focus of attention when showing off your newly-acquired wedding ring. So be careful to avoid doing anything that will cause nails to split and break and take extra care when shaping them. Use a load of hand cream in the weeks leading up to the great day to get them super soft and smooth and the day before the wedding, have a professional manicure. A weighty issue You may have decided to lose a few pounds before your wedding day, but don't set yourself unrealistic targets. It's difficult to stick to a diet at the best of times and when you're stressed out, it's even harder. Chances are, you'll lose weight anyway, rushing around doing all that organizing. It's much better to concentrate on a routine of healthy eating and exercise, rather than dieting. You'll look too thin and pale anyway and your grandmother will toot throughout the ceremony. Try to take some extra exercise, such as walking to work or swimming. This should burn off a few pounds, but more importantly make you feel healthier and more relaxed. If budget allows, you might like to treat yourself to a few days at a health spa. Expert advice, beauty therapies and exercise facilities will help you come away feeling great. It's quite common to incorporate this into your hen do and have an indulgent weekend with your girlfriends. Wedding hair Make an appointment with your chosen hairdresser well in advance to discuss your wedding day hairstyle, especially if you are planning something a bit different. Book some practice sessions and take along your headdress and veil. Remember good hairdressers tend to get booked up, particularly on Saturdays in the summer months. Decide whether you want to visit the salon on the wedding day, or ask the hairdresser to come to the house. Get your booking in writing and ask the hairdresser to make detailed notes after the practice session. If you decide to do your own hair, practice fixing the headdress (and taking it off) before the actual day. |
